Mr. Paccia Honored as NFHS and NYS Coach of the Year

Coach Jim Paccia has been recognized as the 2018 NFHS National Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year and the 2018 NYS Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year! Both titles speak highly to Mr. Paccia's character and dedication as a coach. Paccia has been coaching at Tully for 36 years, as well as teaching various technology classes. Each year, he takes a new group of boys and coaches them not only on the physical attributes of an athlete, but on the character mindset of an athlete. He instills teamwork, character building, community service, and lifelong friendships among his team members. Paccia is widely recognized for coaching Lopez Lomong, who competed in the London and Beijing Olympics, with Paccia being there to support him. But for Paccia, he doesn't feel that his biggest acoomplishment is tied to just one person. He believes his biggest accomplishment is "the success of athletes (his former) at a college level collectively." Many of his athletes go on to compete at the college level, which makes Paccia proud that the values he instills in these young athletes are carried on. When asked about how he felt about the honor of being national and state coach of the year, Paccia responded, "Pretty amazing, but you don't do it for the accolades, you do it for the kids." Tully is very proud of Mr. Paccia and all the great work he does with his athletes! Read more at
