PTO Sponsors Read-A-Thon

Fundraising is something that the Elementary PTO has proven time and time again that they are good at, even during difficult times. They plan events that not only raise funds, but that benefit the kids in some way. This year’s major fundraiser was the Read-A-Thon. Studies show that reading just 20 minutes a night improves overall literacy and vocabulary skills. Students were rewarded not only for reading or raising funds, but also for signing up, sending emails, and sharing on social media (with parental permission). Mrs. Lancer’s class had the pleasure of choosing spirit week themes for having the most kids sign up to participate. What do third graders like to dress up in? Pajamas, crazy hair, camouflage, twins, and of course, grandma and grandpa! Mrs. Saile’s class enjoyed updating the PTO bulletin board, keeping track of each class’s minutes read. The fourth graders earned a popsicle party because they read the most cumulative minutes - over 30,000; and the Kindergarteners won an ice cream party for raising the most money. The Read-A-Thon was successful with over 97,000 minutes read in a little less than three weeks and over $16,000 raised! What an amazing endeavor from all of our students! Special thanks goes to Mr. Keefe and Miss Campbell for helping out with the event.
